Moisture penetration and subfreezing temperatures can cause freeze/thaw scaling. Moisture oxygen and chlorides penetrate concrete or enter at cracks and react with steel reinforcement resulting in oxidation induced corrosion. Corroding steel expands in volume causing concrete to spall, leading to major structural deterioration. The Kelmar System offers protection from spalling caused by the corrosion and expansion of reinforcing steel.
